Offered Programs

Recreational

The HNFC recreational soccer league is for children ages 4-10. The primary objective of the Rec program is to enable players to learn the game of soccer in a fun and stimulating environment. The focus is on developing their skills to help them be the best soccer players they can be, while maintaining a healthy approach to competitive soccer. We provide the opportunity for all children of any skill level to learn and play soccer. We focus on FUN! Players learn about good sportsmanship, teamwork, and get great exercise. All team members play at least half of every game. There are no cuts or tryouts. Uniform jerseys are to be purchased from soccer.com. Players will need black shorts, black socks, shin guards, soccer ball, and water bottle. Coaches are volunteers.

Rec Plus

The HNFC Rec + league is a step towards more competitive play. There are player evaluations and playing time is not guaranteed. Participation is on a first come, first served basis for eligible players. There is some light travel involved to surrounding clubs, but they are in the Indianapolis and surrounding areas. There are 8 games (4 home and 4 away) and includes a tournament. All the same regulations apply to Rec + as they do with travel soccer for the age group. HNFC participates in the Indy Premier Rec Plus program. Coaches are volunteers.

Travel

The HNFC travel soccer teams participate in the Indiana Soccer League (https://www.soccerindiana.org/). Travel soccer is designed for the player desiring to refine their skills and desiring more competition. Different than Rec +, tryouts are held and players are selected by the coach. Similar to Rec +, travel soccer teams play other soccer clubs in the surrounding area. Typical travel is 30-45 minutes away but can be as much as 60-75 minutes away. There are 8 regular season games (4 at home, 4 away) and coaches may choose to participate in a tournament. Coaches are volunteers but are required by Indiana Soccer to have their coaching license.

Group-1

Coaches

HNFC registers approximately 150-175 children each season and we rely completely on parent coaches. We will set as many teams as possible based on the number of parent volunteer coaches and field availability. If you would like to be a coach or an asst. coach please contact the HNFC board at [email protected] or the Rec League Commissioners. It’s a great, no pressure opportunity to have fun with kids in your community.

Practice/Games

Individual coaches schedule practices. As a guideline, we suggest 1-2 practices a week maximum. Each team will be scheduled to play eight games within the U-6 league, ten games within the U-8 league, and twelve games within the U-10 league during the season. The number of Rec Plus and Travel games will be determined upon the start of each season.

Age Chart

NEW US YOUTH SOCCER AGE MATRIX

Indiana Youth Soccer implemented the new age matrix starting in the 2016-2017 seasonal year.

Calendar Year

Effective January 2017, the grouping of players will change nationwide, with encouraged adoption of best practices in August of 2016. U.S. Soccer has mandated that all United States youth soccer programs go back to calendar birth years to align with international standards and Youth National Team programs.

US Youth Soccer and Indiana Youth Soccer will implement the best practice of calendar year age grouping for player registration beginning with the 2016-2017 soccer year for US Youth Soccer programs and competitions.  The new matrix will come into effect beginning August 1, 2016.

Determining Birth Year

US Soccer explains that birth year registration should be calculated based on the year in which the season ENDS.  For example, if a season begins in the fall of 2016 and ends in the summer of 2017 (ex: 2016-2017 season), the players would be registered based on their age in the year 2017.  Competitions that take place in a single year (ex: fall of 2017 only) should use that year to determine birth year.  To simplify determining the age group, just subtract the birth year from the year the season ends.

Year Season Ends – Birth Year = Age Group:

2018-2019 – 2003 = U16

2018-2019 – 2008 = U11

US Youth Soccer will be using the following birth-year “labels” for competition, based upon the season in which competition ends. For example with the 2024-2025 season

Players born from January 1, 2009 – December 31, 2009 will be labeled as Under-16s.

Players born from January 1, 2010 – December 31, 2010 will be labeled as Under-15s.

Players born from January 1, 2011 – December 31, 2011 will be labeled as Under-14s.

Players born from January 1, 2012 – December 31, 2012 will be labeled as Under-13s.

Players born from January 1, 2013 – December 31, 2013 will be labeled as Under-12s.

Players born from January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014 will be labeled as Under-11s.

With the exception of the US Youth Soccer Under-19/20s, the age group “label” will be determined by subtracting the year in which the players participating in the competition were born from the year in which competition ends.
